A change is as good as a rest... right?

Big week here. Got promoted on Monday. Handed in my notice on Tuesday (purely coincidental timing, I assure you). So, the day job is no more. Well, I've got a month left, but come the end of August, the day job will bite the dust. Exciting stuff, huh?

So here are my plans:

1. Move to Scotland. Bye bye, London.
2. Write. A lot. I'm way behind on book 2, but I can't let myself think about that right now.
3. Set up new Top Sekrit Business. (I'll reveal all soon, I promise)
4. Hopefully pick up a part-time job in a bookshop or a deli. I've always fancied working in a deli... all that parma ham... olives as far as the eye can see... CHEESE!

It's all rather scary and leap-of-faithy, but let's hope it's the right thing to do. And if it isn't, then so be it. At least I'll have given it a go.

Aargh. Now that I've just seen that written down in list form, I've got the FEAR. Last time I was this scared was when I moved down to London six and a half years ago, hoping to make my fortune (!) in the world of children's publishing. And that worked out OK. Fingers crossed this will too.

Have you done anything that really scares you? How did it work out? (Please please please tell me it worked out PERFECTLY.)

  1. Not all of that change is restful, but sounds like so much fun! Definitely keep us posted about what's going on.

  2. Cat, sending you so many happy-new-life vibes! I know it will all be brilliant and can't wait to hear developments!

And yes, I've done The Scary, and it had its ups and downs, but mostly it worked out PERFECTLY. :)

  3. I was wondering how that "got promoted" thing worked with the "leaving my job" thing! Congratulations! It's a big move, but so exciting.

  4. OK I've had two things - I left the UK to be a nanny in America for a year which had its ups and downs but looking back on it, I wouldn't have changed anything. I also took a leap of faith, quit my job and went back to uni to become a nurse and that worked out great! Good luck Cat x

  5. I think it sounds great! I've never had the courage to do some of the things I've wanted to and looking back I really regret not doing them!

Looking forward to hearing how it all goes - which I'm sure will be perfectly!

  6. Good for you! You'll be fine.

I packed in my publishing job (production) almost three years ago to move back home (100 miles up North). I'd didn't have anything set up work-wise at the time, but found a new post almost immediately. Since then, I've changed career successfully and still find the time to write. No regrets whatsoever.

I've also had experience of setting up & running a small business so would be happy to share my knowledge so far if you're interested.

  7. Thanks so much everyone! The message seems to be that change is GOOD. And that ain't half a relief!

MC, thanks for the offer... I might just take you up on that!
